Google developers plan to add a Chrome feature that will prevent website ad slots from triggering automatic file downloads in user browsers.'We plan to prevent downloads from ad frames that lack a user gesture to prevent unwanted drive-by-downloads, 'Google developers said in a browser status page released today.
'Downloading with ads doesn't make much sense. It happens very rarely in practice and is also hard to reproduce, which means that a very small number of ads do automatic downloads,' said Google. 'Blocking downloads without user gesture in ad frames will make the web less abusive and safer.'
An 'ad frame' is 'an iframe marked as an ad by the AdTagging Chromium ad detection infrastructure,' according to a design document that Google also published today. This basically means any iframe that Google believes to be an ad.
Today's news marks Google's second security feature announced this year as part of its efforts to block 'drive-by-downloads,' a term used in the information security (infosec) industry to describe a download that occurs without user knowledge.
Back in January, Google announced that Chrome would also block automatic downloads (drive-by-downloads) of files initiated from sandboxed iframes-a type of HTML iframes also used to display ads, but also to exploit malware kits on computers for users.
That first feature is scheduled for late spring release in Google Chrome 74. Google hasn't said when it's planning to start blocking automatic downloads from ad slots, but this year's feature is expected.
This security feature is valid only if users do not interact with the ad frames. If users click or swipe an ad, file downloads will be allowed. This will allow ads to show the type of buttons 'download' or 'get it here.'
If Chrome blocks downloading an automatic file, no visible warnings will be displayed by the browser. The browser maker estimates that once implemented, the performance impact of this feature is negligible. Google intends to add this feature to all versions of Chrome, with the exception of the one shipping for iOS that is not based on the Chromium engine, but on WebKit (Safari's engine).
In Microsoft Edge, when user downloads a file from Internet, the web browser may automatically download the Internet file to a default saving folder location, normally user’s Downloads folder, without asking for further permission, and then only present with the prompt to ask user whether to “Run” or “Open” the downloaded file, together with “Open Folder” as the possible next course of action for the downloaded file.
With Edge continues evolving, the built-in Windows 10 default web browser has the ability to provide a prompt to ask for input to determine whether to download and save the file, or choose the file save location and name before the downloading actually started. If you prefer the downloads to start automatically and instantly, but Edge keeps asking you to choose “Save” or “Save as”, you can also set the Edge to skip the download’s Save As prompt.
To change the Save As prompt setting on whether Edge automatically starts downloads or not, follow these steps:
- In Edge, click the More button (ellipsis) at the top right corner.
- Select Settings.
- Under “Advanced settings” section, hit the View advanced settings button.
- Under “Downloads” section, toggle the Always ask me what to do with downloads option to the following state for the behavior you desired:On – Enable Save Prompt (Ask Before Download)
Off – Disable Save Prompt (Automatic Download)
The above setting makes the change to the EnableSavePrompt DWORD (32-bit) Value registry key:
The value of EnableSavePrompt is as follow:
0 = Off (Turning off Download Save Prompt)
1 = On (Default turning on Download Save Prompt if the registry value not exist)
1 = On (Default turning on Download Save Prompt if the registry value not exist)
Once the Download Save Prompt is enabled, Edge will prompt for choose of either “Save” or “Save as” for user to decide either to automatically save the downloaded file to default location, or manually choose a folder location to save the downloaded file for the later option. Finally, user can also deny and cancel download by selecting “Cancel”.

Thriller michael jackson torrent. Sources told TorrentFreak that the leak is believed to have occurred when Jackson’s Neverland Ranch was undergoing “financial reorganization” earlier in 2009. Indeed, that same “re-organization” resulted in Jackson losing control of his famous sequin glove and the robotic head from his movie, Moonwalker.
